Functional Medicine is an evolution in the practice of medicine that better addresses the healthcare needs of the 21st century.

By shifting the traditional disease-centered focus of medical practice to a more patient-centered approach, functional medicine addresses the whole person, not just an isolated set of symptoms. Functional Medicine practitioners spend time with their patients, listening to their histories and looking at the interactions among genetic, environmental, and lifestyle factors that can influence long-term health and complex, chronic disease. In this way, Functional Medicine supports the unique expression of health and vitality for each individual.

Functional Nutrition emphasizes the importance of high quality foods and phytonutrient diversity to address clinical imbalances at the cellular level and move individuals toward health from the inside out. Advanced nutrition assessment and a thorough Functional Medicine based history leads to a personalized therapeutic intervention created to promote optimal health and prevent diet and lifestyle related disease.

Group visits are an economical way of receiving the practical training that is so often lacking in the conventional healthcare model. During group visits we provide the “how to” such as menu planning, shopping and food prep techniques, we address specific needs such as adapting the program for other members of the family and adapting for traveling and vacations. This is all done in a classroom setting.

We also teach about the mechanisms underlying different chronic disease processes. This knowledge fosters the partnership between the patient and practitioner, increasing the patient’s motivation to adhere to the recommendations.

Finally group visits provide accountability and camaraderie between the group members. This type of support between the members, for each other, has been shown in studies to produce superior results over patients who attempt lifestyle changes without group support.

Functional Nutrition Evaluation

Using a functional medicine approach we are able to evaluate the cellular mechanisms that underlie disease. This provides the basis for personalized, targeted, solutions that can restore health. These solutions typically consist of dietary and lifestyle recommendations that take into consideration the person’s unique genetic make-up along with both internal (mind, body and spirit) and external (physical and social environment) factors that affect optimal functioning.

ONDAMED Biofeedback Therapy

The ONDAMED system is a biofeedback system that uses pulsed electromagnetic waves (PEW) to assist in the identification and treatment of many chronic diseases. The system has four modules, which utilize focused electromagnetic waves to stimulate improvement of systemic functions. There are over 400 programs, which utilize various frequencies of PEW to address common chronic problems such as osteoporosis, immune dysfunction, hormonal imbalance, vitamin and nutrient deficiencies, chronic pain and many more. We have found the Ondamed system to be very effective in addressing addictive behaviors such as smoking and sugar addictions.
